Advancing sustainable disease management in coffee through science, innovation, and eco-friendly practices.
The Division is committed to sustainable disease management in coffee using scientific and eco-friendly approaches. Key initiatives include mapping Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) races, monitoring new hybrids for disease resistance, evaluating fungicides, and promoting bio-control agents such as Trichoderma.
Notable achievements include the identification of effective fungicides like Alkaline Bordeaux Mixture and Hexaconazole, development of integrated spray schedules using botanicals and bioagents, and isolation of 39 CLR races. Continuous monitoring of Arabica and Robusta germplasm for disease resistance, alongside field validation of new fungicide molecules, strengthens the development of Integrated Disease Management (IDM) strategies for resilient and climate-smart coffee cultivation.
